About Me

About Me

My name is Eddie Tchertchian and I teach mathematics at Los Angeles Pierce College, where I've also served as the math department chair since 2018. This is a full circle for me, as my postsecondary education journey started at the same college! Being a community college student inspired me to become a community college instructor.

One day, while at my first job in education as a math tutor at LA Pierce, I was tutoring a hard of hearing student. My knowledge of ASL was extremely limited, but using motion, and literally my hands and feet, I managed to help the student out with their math homework. That day I was convinced of two things: 1) math truly is a universal language; 2) I wanted to help others for a living and teaching was the way to do it!

I transferred to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), where I obtained by B.S. in mathematics. I continued with my math education at California State University Northridge (CSUN) where I obtained a M.S. in applied mathematics. I've been teaching mathematics since and loving it!

I am very involved in the math world, having served on numerous math bodies/organizations. In my free time, I enjoy watching and playing soccer (I'm an LAFC season ticket holder!) and other sports, petting dogs, and playing chess!
